- Trauma- and stressor-related disorders: In this category general feature are stressed thoughts due to environmental hazards and social threats happening to others and close ones (Spielberger, 1973).
Generalized anxiety disorders and rate are:
7 - 9 %: phobia or Specific phobia
7 %: Social anxiety disorder
2 - 3 %: Panic disorder
2 %: Agoraphobia
2 %: Generalized anxiety disorder
1 - 2 %: Separation anxiety disorder (Casado and Dereshiwsky, 2001)
Anxiety symptoms are so severe during the attack of anxiety, several of these symptoms occur;
- Chills or hot flashes
- Discomfort or pain in the chest
- Dry mouth
- Feeling Cold, sweaty, tingling hands or feet
- Feeling stiffness in-breath or smothering sensations, light-headed or faint, choking, detached, losing control, derealisation or depersonalization.
- Fear of losing control or going crazy, dying, dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint
- Heart palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate
- Nausea or abdominal distress
- Numbness or tingling sensations (paresthesias)
- Not being able to stay calm and still
- Panic, fear, and uneasiness
- Palpitations, pounding heart or rapid heart rate
- Sleep problems
- Specific phobia
- Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering
- Trembling or shaking
- Tense muscles
Causes and risks factors
Possible causes include:
Environmental stresses that are related to troubles in work, hurdles in a relationship, unsolved family issues.
Hereditary/genetics refers to people whose ancestor are suffering from an anxiety disorder
Medical factors: In this anxiety may occur as symptoms in the result of different disorders.
Brain chemistry, psychologists refer to many anxiety disorders occur due to mismanagement of hormones and unbalanced electrical signals in the brain(Huberty, 2008).
